Bandwidth Problems & Episode 12

Episode 12 is all ready for uploading but we are having bandwidth problems which believe me is a really great but at the same time painful. It is the 2nd time we’ve had to move up to a higher plan (our host won’t allow us to pay for additional bandwidth) in the last two months. Everything seems fine now but we’re on our last 54MB of bandwidth and that is not going to hold up for another day. Since we are not making money from the show we cannot afford to upgrade to the next higher plan, $75/month is way off our budgets.

Which brings me to three things.

1.) Episode 12 will have to wait till December 1 before we can post it.
2.) The site might be down on November 30
3.) We’re starting a tip jar to hopefully raise enough money to cover our growing bandwidth costs and hopefully some much neeeded equipment.

Thanks for understanding, from all of us.

    Hi guys,

Sorry to hear about the bandwidth probs…

You could just release the next episode as a torrent on the bittorrent networks :)

Or youtube (not sure if this takes bandwidth from yourserver)

    Or video.google.com…

Basically, theres more ways than just posting a link to the file on your server…

    Just saying,
    Jimmy

oh, and a paypal donate button may be “lucrative”…:)

Is there a bittorent feed out there somewhere? That might help your situation, if you let people know that bandwidth is a real concern, and if they want it to stay free, they should switch out of iTunes subscriptions and torrent the thing. Not everyone is savvy enough for this. Those of us who are savvy, though, understand the need for such action to be taken and might be willing to help you guys out in this way.

At least put it up on youtube.com, really have enjoyed all your shows. You might try contacting some local hosting companies in the Phillipines, since you have provided very interesting content about it. They might just go for it.

You could get hosting at godaddy.com just for the episode. They have lots of bandwidth for cheap.

  12. Nathan Says:

How much bandwidth do you get for the $75 a month? The host my sites are on provides 100GB/month for $55. Either way you guys may want to think about making the episodes available on Bittorrent. It’ll cut bandwidth down quite a bit.

Hey guys, great job with the video podcast, appreciate learning your views on websites, ideas and history about the Phillipines. Hope you can get a donate option to bring up your bandwidth, I’m sure people will be willing to donate some since you bring a great show. You do an excellent job, Keep up the awesome work!

    I would go with PayPal
As well as a torrent file
This would greatly reduce your bandwidth use.

Depending on how much bandwidth is used for each episode, I could probably be a mirror.

You can also publish for free on http://www.ourmedia.org/

If you dont want to use any of the other services that have been submited on the comments for this story.. Depending on the amount of bandwidth that is used per episode, I could possibly be a mirror for you guys. If you want to contact me my email is up there, but if not, I understand.

Hey there guys. Yeah i think it’s great that you are producing this and showing us around the Phillipines. Certainly opens up visions of other countries we would never see.

I use audioblog to post lower def versions of my vlog (http://audioblog.r3wind.com) but i am soon to be offering hi-end versions and i have started to use http://www.cachefly.com - they have a great service that has a 30 day trail and i’m sure you could afford the $15 a month that they have for 30gb, i think the next one up $99 is more than enough for you (obviously you need donations etc) - i’m not sure if they do another rate inbetween but i’m sure if they spoke to you they might.

Either way, check it out. cachefly does more than just the hosting - give it a read and i’m sure you’ll see what i mean. Take care and have a great christmas.
